'Concussion' screening held in Lodi with local doctor who inspired the film

A special screening for the Hollywood film 'Concussion' was held in Lodi on Saturday night, with the local man who inspired the movie.

Dr. Bennet Omalu, a San Joaquin County pathologist who currently lives in Lodi, discovered the disease experienced by professional NFL players who sustained repeated concussions during their careers.

The disease is called chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or C.T.E.

'Concussion' is based on Dr. Omalu's findings and his battle with the NFL over those findings.

"I think everyone should go see that movie,"  Dr. Omalu said at the screening. "Every family that has a child that plays any type of sport."

Actor Will Smith plays Omalu in the film, and is now up for a Golden Globe for his role.
