On Saturday, September 15, Memorial Medical Center is hosting its second "Harvest of Hope" — a community cancer-prevention food and nutrition event focused on a healthful way to eat local, sustainable foods to support optimal health.

The event, held at LaRosa Family Farms in Hughson, CA, offers attendees a chance to participate in farm-to-fork workshops to learn about the best local, sustainable food choices and to end the day with a field-to-table dinner.

"Our goal is to educate, inspire behavior change in the way we eat, and get people thinking about food for optimal health," said Cheryl Casey, MMC's Cancer Community Outreach Coordinator. "It's also an opportunity to honor all of those who work so hard to supply the wonderful harvest we have in our own agricultural community."

Attendees will have the opportunity to:

  • Participate in farm-to-fork workshops for information about the best local foods for health, sustainable food choices, cutting waste and menu planning.
  • Check out the chef demonstration on nutrient-dense recipes perfect for families.
  • Learn techniques and water conservation tactics from experts at the small space gardening display.
  • Visit exhibit areas to meet farmers and artisans who produce your local goods.
  • Drop by for a book signing with Sharon Palmer, author of “The Plant Powered Diet.”
  • Mingle with fellow guests at a social hour, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
  • Savor a delicious field-to-table dinner at 6:30 p.m.
  • Relax at the Farmer’s Lounge after dinner.
Tickets are $35 ($45 if purchased after August 15). For more information, call 209-569-7789 or visit www.sutterhealth.org/mmc-harvest
