Delta Drama presents “The Children’s Hour” by Lillian Hellman, Dec 12-14, 8 p.m.; Dec 15, 2 p.m. at the Tillie Lewis Theatre.

Directed by Adrienne Sher, this drama is set in an all-girls boarding school run by two women. A spoiled, conniving student gets in trouble and runs away. In order to avoid being sent back, she starts a malicious rumor about the two headmistresses.

The scandal rocks the foundation of the school and changes the lives of the teachers forever.

Get Fit Lodi is a free fit camp ran on a volunteer basis where people from the community come together to make a positive change in their lives. We have the best coaches. They are loving, compassionate, and outgoing. They never critize or judge you, they just push you and challenge you to be the healthiest version of you that you can be. Get Fit Lodi is for people of all fitness levels, ages, and sizes. We have become a melting pot of a family where we never have to feel embarrassed or judged, but instead we feel loved with positive encouragement from one another. It becomes the one thing you look foward to every week. Can't go wrong with having fun while losing weight, especially when it is for free!

Stockton Athena Awards honors educator; attorney

San Joaquin Delta College President Kathy Hart and attorney Monica Streeter were honored this afternoon at the Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce 27th Annual Athena Awards luncheon.

Streeter received the Young Professional Leadership award initiated in 2009 to recognize emerging leaders and role models for young women professionally and personally.

Hart, pictured with Stockton City Councilman Moses Zapien, was described by past Athena Award recipient Judith Chambers as a  "person dedicated to education and community involvement."

Elk Grove Food Bank Annual Turkey Drive

As the holidays approach, remember, it is time for the “Annual Turkey Drive” hosted by the Elk Grove Food Bank Services and City of Elk Grove Vice Mayor Steve Detrick.

With many individuals, families, and seniors in the Elk Grove area struggling to make financial ends meet, we are asking for community assistance to help with donations so that we may provide them with a traditional Thanksgiving meal.  

We are asking for the following donations:

Frozen Turkeys (12-16 lbs. preferred)
Canned cranberry sauce
Stuffing mix
Instant mashed potatoes
Canned/dry gravy
Canned vegetables
Canned pie filling
Canned fruits

Donations can be dropped off at Elk Grove Food Bank Services at 9820 Dino Drive, Suite 140 from November 12th – 22nd (Monday – Friday) 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and Saturday, November 23rd, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Author Sasha Abramsky discusses poverty and its possible solutions in his thought provoking book “The American Way of Poverty” Wed., Nov. 20, 12:30pm at Atherton Auditorium.

This Cultural Awareness Programs (CAP) presentation is FREE to the public.

Abramsky’s book investigates key poverty issues from housing & wage protections to affordable higher education. His lively discussion will focus on imaginative and pragmatic solutions that, taken as a whole, offer a blueprint for a reinvigorated attack on poverty. In “The American Way of Poverty” Abramsky has issued a rethinking and significant call to action.
