Father of fallen marine speaks on Memorial Day

LODI, CA - The 54th Annual Avenue of Flags in Lodi this Memorial Day included a vivid description of a marine's last moments.

Mike Anderson Sr. of Modesto, talked about his son's death, that came in Iraq in December of 2004.

Anderson was the featured speaker at the event that takes place each Memorial Day at Cherokee Memorial Park and Funeral Home.  The grounds were covered with hundreds of flags and the ceremony included wreath presentations, taps, and a 21 gun salute.

Since his son's death, Anderson has dedicated himself to making sure other Americans don't stop remembering the incredible sacrifice families are making when loved ones are lost.

"As he (Mike Jr.) kicked open a door, eight enemy insurgents were waiting for that chance of a lifetime to kill an American.  Mike Jr. drew his last breath int hat doorway, as he was instantly gunned down where he stood.  A bullet had shattered his heart," said Anderson.
