Second fatal Lodi shooting in less than 24 hours

It’s been less than 24 hours since Lodi Police Department responded to a fatal shooting along S. Garfield Street, but investigators were back in the area Monday morning responding to another.

The incident occurred around 4:38 a.m. on East Oak Street, less than half a mile away from the scene of another fatal shooting that occurred at the corner of South Garfield and E. Tokay streets.

When police arrived at the scene of the Monday shooting, officers discovered a 27-year-old Hispanic man in a vehicle parked on the street. According to police, the man had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police report an investigation is already underway, searching the area for evidence and conducting neighborhood interviews for possible witnesses.

Police were near the scene of the most recent shooting Sunday around 2 p.m., investigating what they believe may be a gang related homicide.

While it remains uncertain, detectives are trying to determine whether Monday’s homicide is in retaliation for the Sunday shooting or if it is unrelated.

Police have not yet identified suspects in either shooting.
