LODI - April 10-16 is National Volunteer Week.  In 2010, nearly 200 volunteers collectively contributed more than 15,800 hours to Lodi Memorial Hospital.  Their time, talents and dedication are truly appreciated.

Millsbridge Clinic welcomes new physician assistant

LODI - Lodi Memorial Community Clinic - Millsbridge welcomes physician assistant Misti Blandford, PA-C. She received a Bachelor of Science in Physician Assistant Health Sciences from the University of Kentucky, College of Allied Health Professionals. She is a member of the California Association of Physician Assistants.

Blandford joins Drs. Ed Freund, James Grady, Victor Gellineau, Harvey Hashimoto, Vijay Mirmira, Ken Mullen and nurse practitioner Dani Bassett. The clinic is located at 1901 W. Kettleman Lane, Suite 200 in Lodi.

This week, "Bringing It Home" TV show host Laura McIntosh tells us how to make Ahi Tuna Wraps in this week's episode "It's Not for Salads" featuring Chef Mark Ayers from Cannery Row Brewing Company.

Ingredients
Soy-Mirin Vinaigrette

2 oz Soy Sauce
2 oz Mirin
2 oz Rice Vinegar
2 oz Sesame Oil
12 oz Blended Oil
½ oz Ginger, fresh grated
½ oz garlic, minced
Salt & pepper to taste

• Combine all ingredients
• Adjust seasoning

Ahi Tuna Wraps
6 oz Ahi Tuna
½ Oz Soy-Mirin Vinaigrette
1 Tbs Green onion, finely chopped
Salt & pepper to taste
¼ oz Jimica, julienned
¼ oz Enoki mushrooms
¼ oz Daikon sproutsikon sprouts
1 tsp Sesame Seeds
¼ Cup Carrots, julienne
3 Lettuce Leafs

Cooking Instructions
Mix tuna with vinaigrette and green onions.

Laura McIntosh's recipe of the week: Pear Sylvetta salad

This week, "Bringing It Home" TV show host Laura McIntosh shows us how to make Chef Sean O'Toole's Sylvetta Salad:

Ingredients
1/4 Sylvetta (Wild Arugula)
3 Bartlett Pears
1/4 Pint Reyes Blue Cheese
1/4 Cup Maple Syrup
1 Tbs Black Peppercorns
1 Lemon
Olive Oil
Salt
Pepper
4 Slices of Rustic Bread

Cooking Instructions
Cut the lemon in half; squeeze half in 1 quart of water. Peel the pears, slice ½ thick, and cut half of those into ½ inch batons and reserve in the lemon water. In a small sauce pot combine sherry vinegar and maple syrup and reduce until glaze like consistency, crack the black peppercorns and add. In a sauté pan, caramelize the pear slices.

Place caramelized pears on a plate, dress the sylvetta and pear batons with olive oil, lemon juice, salt and pepper; arrange on the plate.

Galt policers recognized for their fight against drunk driving

GALT - Two Galt Police Officers were recognized for their efforts in combating the problem of drunk driving today in Rancho Cordova, at a luncheon sponsored by the California Office of Traffic Safety and Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

Officers Keith Russell and Kevin Tonn were among the many Officers from the region honored at today’s awards luncheon. The two Galt Officers arrested a total of 52 drunk drivers during 2010 and were given special recognition for their outstanding accomplishment. Chief Loren Cattolico attended the awards luncheon to support the hard work of his two Officers. Cattolico is certain that his officers saved an injury if not a life because of their arrests.

According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving, one in three of us will be affected in some way by a drunk driver.
