While driving through a pleasant subdivision in south Lodi, you may come across quite a surprise.  One driveway will have a Camry, the next will host a Ford F-150 and then HOLY WHAT THE HECK BATMAN!  Yes, you’ve just driven past David Dickson’s house and yes, it is a Batmobile!  You can’t miss it.

The Biology department at the University of California, Irvine is receiving a $10 million endowment from one of its most eminent professors, who is paying for it largely with proceeds from his vineyard in San Joaquin County.

 

Francisco Ayala, who specializes in issues surrounding science and religion at UC Irvine, owns 2,000 acres near Lodi and produces Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Zinfandel grapes. Money from those crops will go toward funding Ayala's donation of $1 mililon a year for the next 10 years. Read original story...

San Joaquin County Students Receive National Recognition for Science-Fair Projects

LODI,CA - Julie Fukunaga, seventh-grader at Elkhorn School in Lodi Unified School District, and Isabelle de Wood, seventh-grader at Tom Hawkins Elementary in Jefferson Unified School District, wowed the judges with their passion for science and engineering at the California State Science Fair in May taking home the First- and Second-Place titles. That same passion landed them a spot as two of 300 Middle School Semifinalists in the National Broadcom MASTERS™ - Math, Applied Science, Technology and Engineering Competition.
